Jugendstil Otto Wagner Stadtbahn Hanging Lamp Metal, circa 1898, Austria

About the Item

A very rare pendant or hanging lamp by Otto Wagner, Vienna, which was designed for the Viennese Stadtbahn, circa 1898 in Vienna. The hanging lamp was made out of the typical reseda green lacquered metal and brass and a plastic lamp shade with an E 27 socket. An important design piece by Otto Wagner, which shows a Classic reduced metal construction.   Otto Wagner (1841-1918) was one of the most famous and most important architects, designer and urban planner in Vienna at the turn of the century. The original glass lamp shade was changed through a plastic lamp shade by Guzzini as well as at many other hanging lamps from the Wiener Stadtbahn during the restoration after the 2nd world war due the war damages. The vintage condition is very good with signs of age and use. Approximate measures: Height 300 cm Diameter 38 cm.
