Early 20th Century Silver and Crystal 8 Lights Chandelier
About the Item
An ornate cage style chandelier made of silver plate and crystal. Attributed to E.F. Caldwell. C. 1910. This stem of the chandelier is silver plated brass, and is alternating silver stempieces and cut crystal balls and stem pieces. The chandelier is lit by eight interior lights, four up and four down. The“cage” is formed by eight curved metal arms connected at the top and bottom of the chandelier, made of curving squared silverplated brass. The stem is punctuated with a cascade of crystals and rosettes in pendalog, teardrop, thick half pears, and prisms. An excellent foyer piece, it’s visual impact is larger than it’s diameter suggests. The piece was painstakingly restored. It was completely disassembled, all crystal elements cleaned and restrung where necessary. Metals were cleaned, polished, and protected with lacquer to prevent future tarnishing. Dusting, and occasional cleaning with a mild crystal solution is all that is needed to maintain it’s sparke. It is newly rewired, with four candelabra bulbs facing up and four standard sockets facing down. All sockets are wired for 60 W max wattage.
