About the Item

EXCEPTIONAL & RARE MOONSTONE PLAFONNIER WITH DECORATIVE GILT BRASS RING AND OPALESCENT INSETS A beautifully rare and highly decorative Jefferson Moonstone plafonnier, featuring a deeply fluted 14-inch Moonstone glass bowl set within an ornate gilt brass ring inlaid with 31 convex opalescent glass insets. Each inset captures and reflects light differently, producing a captivating interplay of colour and tone when illuminated. The plafonnier is suspended by a three-way decorative brass chain set with a matching cast brass ball hanger and leaf cap detail, perfectly complementing the Art Nouveau styling of the brasswork. The matching decorative bulb holder completes the fitting, ensuring visual continuity throughout the piece. When lit, the Moonstone bowl emits a soft, diffused glow, while the opalescent insets come alive with subtle blue and white iridescence — a hallmark of early Art Nouveau lighting design. An exquisite statement fitting ideal for luxury interiors, country houses, or period restoration projects seeking a touch of refined decorative detail. Founded in 1900 in Follansbee, West Virginia, the Jefferson Glass Company was a pioneer in creating opalescent glassware. Their Moonstone range, introduced during the height of their success, showcased a delicate translucence and subtle glow that captured the light beautifully, making these shades highly desirable both then and now. Moonstone glass shades were typically made from milky white or softly colored opalescent glass, often featuring intricate patterns such as floral designs, ribbing, or swirls. The craftsmanship of these shades demonstrated Jefferson’s expertise in manipulating glass to achieve a balance of elegance and durability. They were designed not only to diffuse light gently but also to serve as decorative focal points, making them a popular choice for domestic and commercial lighting during the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco periods. A Timeless Appeal for Modern Interiors Jefferson Moonstone glass light shades remain highly sought after by collectors and homeowners alike, prized for their luminous quality and timeless beauty. Their soft, ethereal glow makes them perfect for creating warm and inviting atmospheres in modern interiors. These shades pair effortlessly with a variety of lighting fixtures, from pendant lights to table lamps, adding a touch of vintage charm and sophistication to any space. Why Choose a Reclaimed Moonstone Glass Shade? Opting for a reclaimed Jefferson Moonstone glass shade allows you to bring a piece of American design history into your home. These shades not only showcase exceptional craftsmanship but also reflect the artistic sensibilities of their era. Their versatility makes them suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors, where they add a sense of refinement and individuality. Choosing reclaimed lighting also supports sustainable practices, ensuring these beautiful, hand-crafted pieces continue to illuminate spaces for generations to come.
