About the Item

Fibonacci- copper pendant designed by Sophus Frandsen and produced for Fog & Mørup in 1963 - Attractive copper hanging lamp in very good (near excellent) vintage condition! Rare and internationally sought after piece - absolutely stunning Mid-Century Danish lighting design! An elegant large sized pendant, comprised of six copper bands with white inner coating - stabilized by a metal frame with a cylinder shaped top and cone shaped bottom. The cylinder shaped top conceals the bulb mount, which is adjustable to fit various bulb sizes. The Fibonacci was launched in 1963, designed by Danish architect Sophus Frandsen and based on the principle of the Fibonacci sequence - a mathematic sequence of numbers where a number is found by adding up the two numbers before it. The result is an almost glare-free light while providing an even, diffuse illumination of the room regardless if the pendant is suspended high or low. Sophus Frandsen taught and researched the nature of light and its practical application for more than half a century at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and was one of the pioneers of modern research in lighting in Denmark. Fog & Mørup marketed the pendant as "technical lighting perfection combined with architectural beauty" - and it was produced in white lacquer, solid copper and satin aluminum versions. The light and airy design of the Fibonacci is timeless and would be a gorgeous addition to any interior - a true beauty alight as well as idle! For sale here is a copper Fibonacci pendant in very good (near excellent) vintage condition with very few signs of usage and age - few superficial scratches on the outer band (shown on photo 4), no dents or dings, no dis-harmonies and label on the bulb mount intact. Complete with the cone shaped bottom shade, which often are missing on these lights, as you need to remove it for changing the bulb! The bottom cone shade has a few scrapings in the inside white paint and paints chips inside near the top of the shade - not seen from the outside, and has no impact on functionality - but in the interest of full disclosure it should be mentioned. Please see the photos! Condition: All original, but rewired with 2 m (6' 6.7") new high end quality, white fabric cord - for safety and beauty - tested and fully functional. Cleaned, labeled and packed in protective bag. Light source: One bulb, Edison screw-fitting (E27/E26) - Max. 150 watt.
