Jean Gauthier, French Art Deco Modernist Opalescent Pendant Chandelier, 1920s

About the Item

French Art Deco Modernist Opalescent Pendant Chandelier by Jean Gauthier, Paris, France, Circa 1925. A striking French Art Deco pendant chandelier, designed by Jean Gauthier, Paris, circa 1925. This modernist piece features a large, thick opalescent glass shade suspended from a beautifully crafted silver-plated brass frame. It belongs to the same period as renowned glassmakers like Lalique, Sabino, and Etling, capturing the essence of Art Deco elegance with its sleek lines and sophisticated design. Dimensions: Height: 20.5" (52 cm) Width: 16" (40.5 cm) Some slight traces of age on the metal, adding to its vintage charm. The chandelier is delivered fully wired to suit your country’s electrical standards (US, UK, EU, China, etc.) and is compatible with LED bulbs for modern convenience. A true example of French Art Deco craftsmanship and modernist beauty. Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of E zanville. In the early days just after the First World War Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in E zanville were opened for the production of Art Deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many Art Deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Establishments Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J. Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 1930s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed E zan France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
