Hand-carved in the earliest years of the 1900s from one solid block of alabaster, this large and truly one of a kind pendant has a presence that is almost impossible to capture in photos. The shade measures an impressive 19.8 inches in diameter, and its generous scale, deep bowl shape, strong carved rim and spectacular natural veining together create a light fixture with real architectural beauty.
What makes this pendant so special is the remarkable contrast between the calm, creamy-white alabaster and the dramatic dark grey to almost black mineral veins running through the stone. These veins were not painted, stained, or added by man. They are nature’s own design, formed in the stone long before this shade was ever carved. In places they appear like clouds, in other areas like mountain ranges or lightning captured inside the mineral. When the light is switched on, these darker patches become even more alive, giving the pendant a depth and atmosphere that no modern fixture could imitate.
The hand-carved border around the upper rim is another rare and highly decorative feature. With its repeated leaf-like pattern and warm, hand-finished details, it gives the pendant a rich early 20th century character without making it overly ornate.
