Pair of unique shape original 1970s Italian chandelier by Paolo Venini Murano Italy Each chandelier features 172 two-colors gold and clear crystals descending stacked layers of triedri prisms and hanging from hooks onto a chrome frame, 8 rows and 21 lights. Wonderful vintage condition. What makes these chandeliers unique is their original label “Venini MURANO VENEZIA MADE IN ITALY” as pictured. The height dimensions below are without chain; anyway any amount of rod can be added for custom hanging length of the chandelier Height: 23,622 inches without chain. Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts. Paolo Venini Born in Milan in 1895, he trained as a lawyer and soon succeeded in merging his business sense with his love for art: in 1921, in fact, he founded 'Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin & Venini' in Murano together with the Venetian Giacomo Cappellin, and after only four years, in 1925, he decided to continue the enterprise by setting up his own business. The first artistic director was the painter Vittorio Zecchin, who was succeeded in 1925 by Napoleone Martinuzzi: thanks to the collaboration of both, the company transformed local craftsmanship into a true art form. The first pieces that were produced were inspired by models taken from Renaissance paintings, but gradually production developed more and more towards a contemporary interpretation of the art of glassmaking: New techniques for treating glass surfaces such as 'pulegoso', 'corroso' and 'sommerso' glass were introduced in the 1930s. Above all, it was between the 1940s and 1950s that production was renewed, entrusting the production of examples to the most famous architects and designers of the time: the collections of Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti, Tapio Wirkkala and Fulvio Bianconi were presented, to name but a few names that made Venetian glass great. In these years some pieces were also presented at the Venice Art Biennial and the Milan Triennial, thus decreeing the total consecration of Venini's productions to the sphere of art and design.
