Scandinavian 1930s beehive pendant lamp, Boréns, Sweden, glass and steel
About the Item
A beautiful Scandinavian 1930s pendant lamp, probably produced by the Swedish manufacturer Boréns. Constructed from a clear glass outer shade, inside which a cylindrical amber colored glass diffuser softens the light. The shade is decorated with wide, hand-painted bands in a warm peach tone, finished with fine dark red lines. These simple details give the lamp a distinctive appearance while allowing the clear glass to remain the main feature. The glass shade is suspended from a long brass stem with chrome-plated fittings and a matching ceiling cup. Small ventilation openings in the upper metal fitting are typical of lighting from this period. The combination of clear and frosted glass, painted decoration, brass and chrome gives the lamp a characteristic Scandinavian Art Deco look. A well-balanced and decorative pendant with a strong 1930s character. Its relatively simple form makes it suitable for both period interiors and more contemporary settings.
