About the Item

Pair of "umbrella" candlesticks convertibles. Real Fabrica de Platería Martinez, Madrid Villa y Corte, 19th century and later With hallmarks and inscriptions. Both equal, each candle is comprised of two parts engageable with one another: one fernandino "umbrella" candlesticks with its hallmarks, formed by a circular foot whose curved lines extending through the stem (because of this shape it receives that nickname) and the lighter inverted bellshaped; the top part that transforms one to three lights, has its arms decorated fabric hangings and sharp rectangular shapes, and very similar to the three burners of the first part, providing stylistic unit. Shows hallmarking of the Royal Factory of Platería Martinez, created in 1778 by the Aragonese silversmith Antonio Martinez as School Silverware and machines, and which was from the beginning with the support of King Carlos III, which allowed the founder to travel London and Paris to complete his training and was established under the name of Royal Factory in 1786. the other two brands are the Town and Court of Madrid, providing the place of creation of the pieces, which by their popularity, were a model of great success, which highlighted examples are preserved in private collections and museums like the Cerralbo Museum in Madrid (inventory VH VH 0797 and 0798), dated around mid-19th century. A unique feature of these stanchions is the possibility of using a candlestick or three lights, although it is possible that the sconce 3 lights could be further accessory and initially were designed for use by a single candle. They have influences from styles like Art Deco straight lines of the arms and details inspired by Neoclassicism in the curvatures that resemble curved fabrics, modernizing the couple for use in a modern interior.
