Unique Wrought Iron Set “Table, Chandelier & Plant Stand” France or Italy, 1950s
About the Item
A wonderful, one-of-a-kind hammered and wrought iron set, comprising a chandelier, a round coffee table and a plant stand, in an all-over, delicate, filigree pattern.
The plant stand and the chandelier are painted a bright red color. The plant stand shows traces of orange primer beneath the red. The table is painted a slightly darker red. Both the table and the chandelier have touches of gold paint here and there.
The plant stand is composed of segments assembled onto a central stem. Each section is independent from the other and its position can be adjusted. Each has a small, round pot-holder protruding from it, decorated with a rim of small leaves. The stand is mounted on casters.
The chandelier has 16 lights, distributed on two tiers, and is decorated with a motif of acorns and oak leaves.
The filigree on the coffee table shows a heart, spade, club and diamond-inspired motif. It is also decorated all-over with beads. The top is glass.
This set demonstrates great craftsmanship and creative talent, and would have required a lot of patience and dedication to make.
