Salviati Pyrae 15 Floor Lamp in Blown Glass by Luca Nichetto & Ben Gorham

About

Pyrae is a Latin word that illustrates the concept of modularity. There are 53 luminous objects related to the human figure and obtained by assembling 102 modules from different shapes, colors and workings, creating over 10,000 original compositions. The Pyrae capsule collection was created by experienced Salviati artisans over the course of 10 days. The Pyrae are made with unique modular elements finely assembled on a precious marble base from Ischia. Luca Nichetto’s Dolls collection reinterprets dolls from all over the world as large modular floor lamps. The infinite possibilities of assembling the colored glass modules allow the creation of new combinations, always maintaining proportions and harmony. Designer Luca Nichetto was born in 1976 in Venice. He graduated from the University of Architecture and Design in Venice (IUAV) in 1998 with a degree in industrial design. Nichetto began his professional career in 1999 when he designed his first object for Salviati. Later he became a product designer and consultant for Foscarini lighting. In 2006, he founded his own practice in Venice, and in 2011, opened a studio in Stockholm. One of the most interesting Italian designers, Nichetto has served as art director for many international design brands, lectured in design universities and sat in the jury for varied international design competitions. Nichetto’s works have been exhibited worldwide and awarded for the innovative approach across the design discipline (furniture, accessories, architecture and exhibition design).
