About the Item

This floor lamp is a striking example of outsider or studio art, combining functional lighting with expressive, large-scale painted imagery and a highly tactile surface. Its bold, maximalist character makes it well suited to contemporary, eclectic, or Postmodern interiors. The column is encircled by stylized, abstracted faces rendered in thick black lines, giving the imagery a whimsical, primitive quality associated with surrealist and expressionist work. These motifs appear against saturated horizontal bands of deep purples, turquoise and sky blues, teal greens, and soft coral tones, creating a dramatic gradient effect. Metallic gold splashes and accents introduce additional depth and variation. The base is tall and sculptural, shaped like an inverted vase or classical urn. Its most distinctive feature is the heavily corrugated surface, reminiscent of coiled pottery or deeply ridged papier-mâché. This pronounced texture allows the layered paint to catch light unevenly, enhancing the sense of movement across the form. The lower base and collar near the socket are finished in a mottled metallic gold, grounding the composition and providing contrast to the vivid palette above. Overall, this lamp functions as both an ambient light source and a sculptural statement piece. Its bold color, texture, and handmade character make it an exceptional choice for collectors of unique, artist-created furnishings.
