About the Item

Beautiful telescopic table or floor lamp designed by Giuseppe Ostuni, manufactured by O-Luce in Italy, circa 1950. This outstanding piece is made from beautiful quality brass with black lacquered metal. It can be extended from a table lamp to a floor lamp and also to a middle size. When extended it reveals a longer brass arm, ensuring it's luxurious appearance in every position. It can be adjusted from 57 to 152 cm in height. The hood has perforated details and is made of high quality white or cream white lacquered metal. It can be adjusted in position, making this lamp very versatile and suitable for many interiors. It emits a lovely light when lit. This piece truly is lighting design at it's finest. In great original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a wonderful patina. Established in 1945 by the master Giuseppe Ostuni, Oluce is the oldest Italian lighting design company that is still active today. In fact, before the war there existed only Gino Sarfatti's Arteluce, which disappeared in the late 1990s, while 1948 saw the birth of Azucena and Lamperti, followed by Arredoluce and Stilnovo in 1950. But for many years it was chiefly Arteluce, Azucena and Oluce that dominated the Italian scene, creating a hub for the designers - strongly engaged first in the reconstruction and later in the birth of series production - who animated the Milanese forum: Vittoriano Viganò and BBPR, Gigi Caccia Dominioni and Ignazio Gardella, Marco Zanuso and Joe Colombo. Ostuni's collaborators included: Forti, the forgotten advocate of a new living style for the Milanese high middle class, as well as Arnaboldi, Monti and Minale. But it was only at the end of the decade, thanks to the encounter with Joe and Gianni Colombo, that Oluce took a more pronounced revolutionary slant.
