18th Century Louis XV Pair of Wall Lamp in Gold Bronze

About the Item

A pair of beautiful gilt bronze two-light wall sconces in the Louis XV style, each of asymmetrical Rococo form, the highly ornamented back plate wrapped in acanthus with flower heads, oak leaves and acorns, emitting two scrolling branches molded with foliage ending in dripstones resembling different flowers. The entire fixture is almost alive with life, with individually shaped flowers and petals and intricate foliage adding to the vibrancy and energy of the Rococo design. The pair of sconces is similar to the designs of Jean-Joseph St.Germain (1719-1791), particularly the use of whimsical elements alongside generously sized foliage to create a dynamic effect. Further comparisons can be made by the similar use of oak leaves, acorns and certain types of flowers. We have one pair of this wall lamp in stock however we can produce them made to measure and in other finishes such as 18k gold, 24k gold, silver, nickel, black nickel (our any bespoke finish). Our Company may also customize sizes or make any modifications on original design.

    Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
This beautiful pair of sconces is a re-edition of a model of the famous Parisian bronze maker Delatour Lacarrière. Lacarrière creates in 1825 a factory at 3 bis, rue Sainte- Elisabeth (Paris, France). Simple craftsman, he specializes and excels in the application of bronze in lighting devices. In 1834, he received an honorable mention, in 1839, a bronze medal and in 1844, a silver medal for a large triangular candelabra, prefiguring the one presented at the Universal Exhibition in London in 1862. He also participated in the design of the chandelier for the Queen's Theatre in London. From 1851 to 1870, he changed his company name several times. Lacarrière, Delatour et Cie (active in 1870) cast and chiseled most of the lamp posts, candelabras and chandeliers of the Paris Opera, including the one in the auditorium, designed by Charles Garnier...
