Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Ormolu Five-Arm Sconces
About the Item
A stunning and most impressive pair of French 19th century Louis XVI St. ormolu five-arm sconces. Modeled after a pair by the bronzier Claude Galle which he created in 1809, for the 'Grand Salon of Le Petit Trianon", The Queen's Palace. The sconces are supported by a richly chased back plate with tassels and hoof shapes below large acorn leaves topped by a bow. Three scrolled horns are tied with a bow and decorated with richly chased foliage. Above are two additional arms in form of dragons with wings below the exquisitely chased bobéches with Greek key designs and beaded border. All original gilt.
