Pair of 19th Century French Ormolu Candelabras by Barbedienne
About the Item
A superb quality pair of French Louis XV style ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble seven arm candelabras by Ferdinand Barbedienne. Each is raised by a square Rouge Griotte marble base above scrolled ormolu feet with acanthus leaf ormolu mounts. Each vase-shaped body surmounted by scrolling handles and issuing conforming scrolling acanthus-clasped branches.
Inscribed: F. Barbedienne.
Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–1892). Barbadienne was a French metalworker and manufacturer, who was well known as a bronze founder. Between 1850 and 1854 his firm, Barbedienne, provided furnishings in the Renaissance Revival style for the Ho^tel de Ville, Paris. They received numerous medals at the International Exhibitions, including medals in three different classes at the International Exhibition of 1862 in London.
