Pair of LP12 Brass Single Light Sconces by Ignazio Gardella for Azucena, 1960s

About the Item

Designed by Ignazio Gardella for Azucena, this elegant pair of LP12 Variation wall sconces embodies the refined architectural language that made Gardella one of the defining figures of postwar Italian design. Each sconce features a softly sculptural satin opaline glass diffuser with a distinctive mushroom-like silhouette, supported by a gracefully curved solid brass arm terminating in a square brass wall plate. The restrained geometry and careful balance between opaline glass and warm brass exemplify Gardella's timeless approach to lighting design, where architectural clarity meets exceptional craftsmanship. The LP12 series, often referred to as the "Galleria" model, was originally conceived for one of Gardella's architectural commissions, the PAC in Milan, and became one of Azucena's most celebrated lighting designs. Produced in several configurations, the single-light variation remains among the most versatile and elegant. The sconces retain a beautiful original brass patina and are signed Azucena. An exceptional pair suitable for both modern and historical interiors.
