About the Item

PAN-OPTICON - a fantastic pair of sconces, designed by Bent Karlby in 1968-1969 and produced by Lyfa. A set of two polished narrow aluminum "PAN flute" pipes with a rounded polished aluminum cover and a matte inner coating one with blue inner and one with red inner. The aluminum cover conceals the two light bulbs in the center of each light and is able to move up and down enabling you to adjust the flow of light to suit your needs. When these beautiful PAN-OPTICON sconces are lit, the colored inner gives off a soft ambient illumination and guides the emitted light upwards and downwards along the pipes creating a beautiful pattern of colored light onto the wall. When idle it is a sculptural piece of art hanging on the wall. An exceptional vintage collectible addition to any space! In the late 1960s Bent Karlby created a series of Pan-themed lights, originally produced by Lyfa. The first two versions launched was the PAN-OPTICON wall light (with yellow, blue or red inner) and the all aluminum PAN pendant. In 1970 Bent Karlby designed two other versions, the Pandean wall light (with red or yellow inner) and the Pantre pendant (with red or yellow inner). The following year, Karlby and another Danish lighting producer, ASK Belysning launched the PAN in Plexiglas as table light, pendant and wall light. The set of PAN-OPTICON wall lights that I have up for sale in my shop - one with red inner and one with blue inner - are both in same very good vintage condition. Please note that I also have two Pandean wall lights (one with red inner and one with yellow inner) and two Pantre pendants (one with red inner and one the yellow inner) up for sale in the shop - please check the shop - I am happy to offer combined shipping if you are interested in more than one item. Condition: Original, but rewired with 1.5 m (4' 11.1") white plastic cord - for safety and beauty - fitted with Euro style plug - which is easily changed to your specific plug. Tested and fully functional. Cleaned, labeled and packed in protective bag. Light source: 2 x one Edison screw-fittings (E27/26) max. 40 watt each (in each lamp).
