Sculptural Pair Large Baroque Style Antique Gilt Carved Wood Leaf Sconces, 1900

About the Item

Sculptural large pair of antique Baroque Style Acanthus leaf sconces, Germany or Italy around 1900 to 1920. The expressive and vividly hand-carved and high quality wood sconces have a red ground which is partly visible, a thin off white plaster layer with a gilt golden surface. They are each 40 cm / 15.75 inches tall, 18 cm / 7.09 inches wide and 13 cm / 5.12 inches deep. Each wall light has a patinated brass fitting for one E27 standard screw bulb to illuminate. They are new rewired, so fine working and ready to use. These artistic and aesthetically pleasing sconces have the most wonderful shape and patina which makes them highly desirable. The organic shape and the natural flowing shape of the deeply carved acanthus leafs make this pair an absolute joy to own and look at. The extraordinary rare sconces stay in very good original vintage condition with minor typical characteristic wear consistent with age and use. They are an eye-catcher and an upgrade for any chic and stylish design interior, perfect to set a contrast to a very modern one.
