Vintage Mid Century Marshall Studios, Inc. Teak Wall Sconce

About the Item

A wall sconce from Marshall Studios, Inc, Veedersburg, Indiana. The sconce first appeared in a 1966 Marshall Studios catalog. The model number was T12 and described as being made of teak. Marshall Studios, Inc. initally started out as makers of handmade lampshades. The Marshall’s son, Nickolas Marshall, studied architecture at the University Of Illinois and joined his mothers lamp shade business. Hazel Lee and Richard Lee, a woodworker, were two of Marshall Studios first employees. Nicholas’s daughter, Jane, married Gordon Martz, both graduated with honors from Alfred University. They were ceramists and joined the Marshall family business. Jane and Gordon Martz were responsable for the design of the ceramic lamps. The wall sconce offered was designed and made by Nickolas Marshall and Richard Lee. The sconce is 24 inches tall (from top of finial to the bottom of the back piece), the back piece is 18 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches at its widest, the sconce sets approximately 8 inches from the wall (not including the shade). The shade is not original to the lamp, the shade is new and is included with the sconce. The sconce is not marked, but is very well documented throught vintage Marshall Studios, Inc. catalogs.
