Ceramic Lamp Base from Alingsås, Sweden

About the Item

A beautiful and big ceramic lamp, known as "Royal" from Alingsås ceramics, Sweden. It has an elegant shape with a warm, sandy colour with some rich brown details, there is one bloc of shiny metal glazing. The design is very sleek and it has contemporary feeling to it. It is 35cm (13.77") high with lamp fitting and around 10cm (3.93") in diameter and in a good condition. Note that this has a plug for usage in Sweden and many other EU countries. Alingsås Keramik was started in 1947 by Halvard Oldberg and Hilding Canemark. In the beginning, enamel work was a specialty, but they soon turned to the priduction of ceramics, stoneware and earthenware. They succeeded so well that for a few years they exported large quantities of their goods to the United States. In 1959, it had 18 employees, then eventually a maximum of 70 employees at the company.    Some decorators and artists during this time included Tomas Anagrius (active at the factory 1962-1963). He had then worked with Stig Lindberg at Gustavsberg keramik. Ulla Winblad-Hjelmquist worked on "ceramics" from 1958-1967 before moving to the USA, Siv Beckman was also employed as a designer at the factory. The business ceased in the mid-1980s. Ceramics from Alingsås keramik from the 1960s and 70s are timeless art objects and are gaining in reputation on the retro and vintage market.
