Dutch Art Deco Amsterdam School fringed copper desk lamp by Conrad Fehn, 1920s

About the Item

An exceptionally rare, signed Conrad Fehn Amsterdam School desk lamp - identical to the example featured in the famous reference work 'Living in the Amsterdam School' (see in the video) This book comes with the lamp. This striking design, with its lavish textile fringe, is said to have been inspired by carnivorous plants, particularly the Venus Flytrap. The influence is evident in the lamp’s organic yet dramatic silhouette: a bold arched stem in hand-worked copper, riveted details, and a shade with fluid, irregular edging from which the fringe drapes like botanical tendrils. This is a surprisingly large and heavy lamp, with excellent stability. The patina of the copper speaks to a century of careful preservation, while the vivid fringe adds a warm glow when lit. It harmonizes beautifully with other Amsterdam School furnishings, yet also stands as a captivating centerpiece in eclectic, contemporary interiors. An out of the box choice for the more daring! The lamp operates with a single E27 lightbulb and is fitted with a standard European plug. Wiring was replaced recently and in perfect working order. About the Amsterdam School: The Amsterdam School was a Dutch architectural and design movement flourishing between 1910 and 1940, characterized by expressionist forms, sculptural details, and exceptional craftsmanship. Its influence extended beyond architecture into furniture, lighting, and decorative arts, creating a distinct and enduring style that remains highly recognizable and sought after worldwide.
