About the Item

DESCRIPTION Large scale vintage pottery lamp designed by Lee Rosen for Design Technics in the 1950's - 1950's. The lamp stands approximately 37 inches tall at the top of the finial, 26 1/4 inches at the top of the socket and 21 1/2 inches at the top of the pottery base. The top of the pottery base is 5 1/4 inches in diameter, the widest part of the base is 12 inches in diameter and the base is 6 1/2 inches in diameter. The pottery base has been cleaned as well as the original brass hardware, the harp is new, new insulation in the socket, the twisted nylon cord and socket are new and a new scratch pad on the bottom The lamp shades are NOT included, the shades are used to emphasize the scale of the lamp and the impact different style shades can have on the final look of the lamp. The lamp is not marked, however the original hardware and the pottery shape and glaze are very much in keeping with vintage Design Technics lamps. BIOGRAPHY Founded in Greenwich Village, New York, as a craft and design shop in 1940 by husband and wife team Sam and Lee Rosen, the fledgling company specialized in tiles and lamps. Also offered were classes in a variety of media: metals, weaving, enameling and, of course, ceramics. As the company grew a showroom was added at 160 E. 56th Street, New York in 1954, selling mostly to professional designers and architects. The company was called Design Technics. With Lee as the chief designer, the company continued to grow.
