Monumental and dignified, this pair of Art Deco sculptures depict a shepherd and shepherdess, crisply shaped and stylized like the best of 1930s public sculpture, and painted in rich but subdued colors with an effect like sun-bleached stucco. This pair of white glazed (Blanc de Chine) fluted porcelain lamps mounted on square bronze bases and topped by bronze mounts represent timeless elegance. The style is bordering art deco and they likely date to the 1940's-50's. The maker is the New York company DAV ART founded in 1917 supplied by Lenox Porcelain. Showing first grade craftsmanship all over including the accompanying porcelain and bronze teardrop finials the lamp shades compliment the tasteful appearance. Both lamps are marked with high relief company logos.
