Muller Frères, Table Lamp, Art Nouveau, France, 1920-1933, Glass/Wrought

About the Item

The hammered iron leg of this lamp, wrought in the manner of Paul Kiss, plays on the contrasts between the different surface effects conferred to the metal: horizontal and vertical striated hammering, radiation-shaped hammering, hammering worked in rounded shapes… In this concert of hammered reliefs, the white granite glass lampshade interprets a score which stands out against the aspects of metal while reinforcing the impression of power which emerges from the whole. The very rare Muller Brothers glassware with its granite appearance is in perfect condition. Signed in the mass “Muller Fres Lunéville”, which allows to date its production between 1919 and 1933. Like Daum at the same period, the Muller Brothers’ company produced this type of glassware, whose grain elegantly dims the light, to offer an alternative to the polishing technique. Excellent condition – barely used with minimal signs of aging & wear Muller Frères were French glassmakers located in Lunéville, France. They were renowned for producing art nouveau glassworks such as vases and lampshades. The Muller family originally came from Alsace. Some members of the family worked together with Émile Gallé before starting their own business.
