About the Item

All original table lamp designed by Gerald Thurston and produced by Lightolier. The lamp has a round acrylic diffuser on the bottom of shade and topped off with a metal diffuser on the top of shade which blocks the light slightly when light bulbs are turned on. Total height with shade in place measures 30" high. Base measures 7.5" wide, 7.5" deep and 1.25" high. Shade measures 18" diameter (top), 19" diameter (bottom) and 8.25" high. Gerald Thurston was an American designer and artist, born in 1914, United States, the date and place of death are unknown. He was one of the most innovative, ingenious lighting designers of the postwar time period. Thurston is know for his elegant forms and sleek materials. He designed, worked many years with the lighting manufacture Lightolier. Thurston's personal life and professional training remains lost in history. Lightolier is an American lighting manufacturer, founded in 1904 by Bernhard Blitzer. Their original name was the New York Gas and Appliance Co. Since the beginning the specialized in creating decorative chandeliers before shifting to high-end design, production in the late 1920s. Lightolier introduced the first track lighting system in the 1960s, designed by Anthony C. Donato. They were the first lighting manufacturer who introduced digital lighting system in the 1990s. Later on, in 2007, Philips Royal Electronics acquired the company.
