Table Lamp in Hand Painted Sevres Porcelain and Glass Lampshade from the 1940s

About the Item

Hand painted Sevres porcelain table lamp, with bronze structure and green glass shade, made in the 1940s Sèvres ceramics are one of the most famous ceramic manufacturers in all of Europe, born in France in the 18th century. From the beginning, the production stood out for its elegant, refined and graceful shapes, characterized by the colour Sevres Blue, then combining other colors such as turquoise blue and Persian green. Originally the manufactory produced soft porcelain, but from the 1760s it began to produce hard porcelain. In the early 1800s we see the chromatic production enriched, adding its most precious color, loro brilliant. These ceramics were requested by the greatest European aristocracies who wanted table centrepieces, vases, statuettes and small sculptures. Over time the production changed subjects, passing from allegories and mythological subjects of the Baroque, to themes of Greco-Roman antiquity, the taste for Egyptian art and ornaments on a gold background looking towards neo-classicism. Very famous are the biscuits, delicate figurines left without enamel to distinguish them from German polychrome production and bring them closer to the cold beauty of marble, which are nowadays highly sought after by collectors. For the creation of these ceramics often made in white, the artists were inspired by gallant scenes or pastoral scenes. Furthermore, the most common decorative motifs were the "rocaille" bodices of taste rococò and the landscapes with pink or blue cupids on a white background. Measures: Ø cm 25 h cm 54.

  • Table Lamp in Blue Murano Glass and Golden Stem by Nason from the 80s
    By Carlo Nason
    Located in Milano, MI
Murano glass table lamp by Nason, made in the 1980s. The lamp is composed of a pastel blue glass hat, a golden glass stem and an opaque white glass base. Ø cm 17 h cm 31 Carlo Nason, born in Murano in 1935 from one of the oldest families of glassmakers on the island, he was a great master glassmaker. He grows up frequenting the glass masters who work in the family furnace, appropriating the most refined techniques of glass art, demonstrating an innovative and planning aptitude which he employed in the field of design, but referring back to tradition. In 1925 the Nason Moretti company was founded by the nasone brothers, specialized in the production of furnishing accessories and tableware, where the mastery of the most refined Murano techniques is integrated with a modern vision and careful chromatic research. In 1955 Umberto Nason created an innovative project of two-coloured bowls and glasses which earned him the Compasso d'oro award. In the 60s with the second generation of the family there is a great development of the company which still maintains the characteristic vocation for experimentation. In the 1980s, he looked at lighting with postmodern reinterpretations of designed lights, with the Carlo Moretti Studio line and the series of collector's goblets and tumblers. Since the 1990s, the activity has focused on new collections conceived in a modern and design-oriented key. Carlo Moretti of Venice, founded by Carlo in 1958 in Murano, passed under new ownership in 2013, but is still today an important company for its constant relationship with design. The company is known for the beauty and elegance of Murano glass, reaching not only the tables of the most important families, but also the modern tables of today. Worked with ancient and secret techniques, Nason Moretti glass...
