About

A fine George IV giltwood overmantel mirror, with a leaf carved pediment and egg and dart moulding, a central pedestal and urn, above similar cornice. The rectangular plate is framed by trailing husks and pearl beads and flanked by set back stop-fluted composite pilasters with a corresponding cornice.

English, circa 1830.

Provenance:

Removed from a house in Edinburgh's Royal Circus, which was designed by William Playfair and built between 1820 and 1823. The mirror had certainly been there for over a century and perhaps since the house was completed.
