About the Item

The artist works within the traditions of craftsmanship and material experimentation fused with contemporary design to create work spanning the spectrum of fine and decorative arts. His work includes mirrors, furniture, objects, wall panels and screens. He explores materials and processes, of subtle representations of constellations and nebulas, captured within a mirror by layers of pure fluid reflective color of silver and resin, to organically formed tables of engineered antler, and rippling screens of carved, scorched wood. The mirrors offered for sale here were originally inspired by slices of agate stone with their subtle, glass-like coloration. The results are striking and the techniques involved create two forms of reflectiveness: The reverse of the glass is part water silvered by hand, giving a good deal of true reflection as in a modern mirrors. Behind this is then a layer of deep blue grey resin, which creates an unexpected depth and color slightly varying from one mirror to another. The resin diffuses the reflection coming from the additional layer of silvering behind, creating an ethereal feel which is intriguing to the viewer. An image is included in the detail images of a previous mirror with a plant diffused in reflection. The frames are hand-carved wood applied with blackened gesso and a lacquer coating. The surface is uneven with a close up of a similar example provided in the detail images. We also provide an image of the reverse of a rectangular mirror having the same hanging mechanism. A wooden hanging plate is screwed to the reverse of each mirror, fixing its angle. Another plate is supplied to the purchaser to be screwed levelly to the wall. Both have a mirror image chamfer enabling the mirror to simply be lowered onto the wall plate. The advantage of the hanging plate mechanism is that it spreads weight across the wall, and it is entirely up to the purchaser how many screws they want to secure the plate with. The measurement provided is of the overall approximate wall space the mirrors occupy (depending on proximity of hanging). It should be noted that the artist can be commissioned to make bespoke mirrors engaging these, and other, techniques.
