    Although sunburst motifs were seen on small convex mirrors as early as the 15th century, it was not until the reign of Louis XIV, aka The Sun King, that sunburst mirrors became larger and more flamboyant. Our large Italian giltwood sunburst mirror with wooden pendant surround was hand-carved using antique materials in Northern Italy. Although the mirror is quite large (62 ¾ inches in diameter), the reflective surface is relatively small at 11 inches in diameter. It is encircled by a parcel painted black surround with cavetto molding.
