19th Century Biedermeier Wall Mirror Gold Leaf Plated, Austria circa 1830
About the Item
Exceptional Biedermeier wall mirror from the era around 1830 in Austria. The artfully processed, gold leaf covered frame is adorned by absolute elaborately handcarved corners depicting unique floral designs and covered by an amazing looking patina. The mirror plate, still the original with some aging spots and light scratches, shows a very special facet cut with concave fillets. Red shimmering spots that shine through the slightly abrased surface are caused by the so-called "bolus", the substrate/ ground for gilding and confer this early 19th century wall mirror a very noble and unique appearance. Our priority during the restoration process of this over 190 years old antique Biedermeier mirror was to keep its original charme as good as possible. The backside is closed with wooden spruce boards and the hand forged ring makes wall mounting easy. An extraordinary shaped and truly elegant wall mirror from the famous Biedermeier period in Vienna/ Austria.
