Magnificent Mirror by Georg Andreas Steinhäuser, circa 1830

Buyer Protection Guaranteed

This early 19th century mirror was made by Georg Andreas Steinhäuser of Bremen around 1830 for the American market. it is nearly identical to one in the Clark Institute in Williamstown that bears the maker's label. The finely sculpted giltwood and plaster-composition frame is in the form of two cornucopia brimming with sheaves of wheat. The undecorated areas have a speckled faux-finish over the gilding, and the mirror plate is most likely an old replacement.
