Kaléidoscope, a lacquer wood mirror designed by Hervé Langlais, is from the collection Synthesis for Galerie Negropontes in Paris, France For its fifth anniversary, Galerie Negropontes presents Synthesis a collection encapsulating five years of formal research. Exceptional materials, play on perception, sculptural lines, characteristics dear to Sophie Negropontes and Hervé Langlais, were developed in their previous collections and are re-affirmed here. These dozen pieces reflect the identity of the gallery and the signature of its designer. The Synthesis collection is an opportunity for Galerie Negropontes to pay tribute to classics of the French decorative and furnishing tradition, interpreting them in a contemporary light. Gilding, a technique steeped in tradition, is used for the Kaleidoscope mirror. The palm and lacquer of its frame are a direct reference to Art Deco while its geometry is reminiscent of the spirit of Mondrian. Its surface consists of dozens of precious metal sheets, giving its reflection a timeless patina. Hervé Langlais is a graduate of the Normandy School of Architecture in Rouen. He collaborated with Paul Andreu for over fifteen years, working on the National Grand Theater of China in Beijing and the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai. In parallel to his work with Andreu, Langlais’ personal projects led him to design interiors for private homes. While designing for a number of studios, Langlais founded his own design studio in 2006, loyal to his guiding principles of combining precision and purity of design with high quality materials. Since 2012, he has been working in close collaboration with Sophie Negropontes, designing a yearly collection of luminaires and furniture. Langlais has also created Galerie Negropontes’ unique stands for trade fairs in France and abroad. Hervé Langlais’ creations are in keeping with the French Decorative Arts, renewing a tradition of excellence in which luxury and modernity come together. *Measurements may vary slightly.
