Unusual 19th Century Irish Waterford Glass Mirror

About the Item

An unusual Irish 'all glass' mirror. Mid 19th Century, made in the style of early 18th Century examples. The arched top mirror plate is set within a frame of faceted blue and white glass studs with applied gilding. This jewel-like mirror is typical of Irish cut-glass mirrors of the late 18th and 19th century, some of which were hung with chandeliers. County Waterford was famous for its glass production in the period. The Waterford Glasshouse was known particularly for producing these distinctive mirrors. Oxidisation and surface scratches to the mirror commensurate with age and type.
