Art Deco Deer Sculpture by Karl Hagenauer
Hagenauer workshops were opened in Vienna in 1898 by Carl, the father of both Karl and Franz Hagenauer. It is the two sons contributions to the company, and the modern movement, that are best remembered, however. Karl Hagenauer (1898-1956) created a wide array of decorative and functional sculptures, in various metals and woods. Our carved deer is an elegant example of the master sculptors talents. The choice of using a striped grained wood adds to the beautiful surface, and is polished and finished to a high luster. Bronze antlers add another great visual element as well. The deer is in a large scale, is in excellent original condition, and displays the makers stamps to the underside.
