About

Beautiful sculptural form double bed with pair of very rare matching nightstands in a classical style by Italian master craftsmen Luciano Frigerio (1928-1999), circa 1970

The stunning headboard features nine bronze sculptural relief colonnettes in cast bronze set into a brass anodized aluminium classical style frame. The side and foot frame elements are in an enameled finish, we can have the side and foot rails reenameled in a choice of colours such as white should you wish the rails to match the color of the nightstands .. We have not attempted to refinish this bed in any way in order to protect the originality and authenticity of the piece.

The pair of rare matching nighstands are made of lacquered wood and feature one pull out drawer at the top and a drop down door at the bottom, both with bronze sculptural relief handles from the same family motif as the colonettes on the headboard.

Luciano Frigerio was the son of a cabinet-maker from Desio, near Milan. By the age of 25, he had trained with many of the master craftsmen of his day. He would visit their workshops when pieces were being made for luminaries such as Gio` Ponti, Franco Albini and Carlo de Carli and apply what he had learned to his own furniture. The results were highly original, eclectic pieces, masterful in their use of color, finish and detail. From the 1970s to the 1990s, Frigerio di Desio showrooms opened in cities all over Italy and Mr Frigerio himself completed many private commissions, among them two hand-carved lecterns for Pope John XXIII, which are still in the Basilica di San Pietro e Paolo in Rome today.
