Edward Wormley Free-Standing Queen Size Bed with Drawers

About the Item

Edward Wormley for Dunbar, queen size bed with drawers, oak, leather, brass, United States, 1960s Rare queen-size bed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar designed in the 1960s. This exceptional bed features a wooden frame and large headboard that both include storage space. Leather handles access the facilities under the queen-sized frame that overhangs the base. A deep headboard has two sided storage space and therefore the bed is designed to be free-standing. Beautiful idea is the combination of dark stained oak for the frame together with blond oak for the fronts. This bed is a great example of Wormley's designs for Dunbar.    Edward Wormley (1907–1995), was born in rural Illinois, United States. As a young man, he was passionate about design and enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1926, but left due to financial issues and began working for an interior design company. He later joined the Dunbar Furniture Company in Indiana, where he served as director of design for almost 40 years. Following World War Two, he became an independent design consultant. Wormley passed away in 1995, but his legacy of creating elegant and high-quality furniture lives on. He was a master in combining classical 20th century design with modern innovations.
