Antique Italian Neoclassical Painted QUEEN Bed is a splendid expression of the classical style that dates back three thousand years! Even the French embraced the style during the reign of Louis XVI, but in reality it never really went out of fashion. This example, with rectilinear headboard, rails and centermost portion of the footboard, is softened into the room with the introduction of radiused curves a the lower portion of the footboard's sides to connect to the rails. Beautifully carved molded detail appears in abundance across the entire framework, including spiral ribbon, egg and tongue & dart, with a particularly resplendent vine relief across the top of the headboard that is amazingly intricate. Awesome vintage Mid-Century Modern walnut & cane flip top storage twin headboards, a pair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, the interior storage space has been painted black to finish it off. But even though the tops have been sanded, there are still some stubborn stains on both tops. And a few minor scratches and nicks on the sides & face. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. Serious question… What are TWINS’ favorite fruit??? PEARS!!! Get it!! LOL… Ok, well, This is a fabulous “pair” of “twin” sized headboards comprised of walnut frames, rectangular natural cane insets, and they have a flip top feature which reveals a totally open interior storage space!!! I mean… That’s a MASSIVE amount of storage!!! Not to mention… a GREAT hiding place!! HaHa!! Just kidding… don’t do that!! The interior of the storage space has been painted black and they are lined with natural cedar… no moths allowed!! We believe this duo was custom made and they are ready to grace your home with their Mid-Century Modern MAGNIFICENCE!!! They would be wonderful together in a bedroom separated with a nightstand between or separate them and use one in one bedroom and one in another, or…set them beside each other, turn the twin mattress sideways OR place one on each end of a twin mattress and you have a unique daybed or chaise! The designer has been attributed to this piece based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, it is not signed or marked as to designer in any way. It does have its B&B Italia tag. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage & not new so will have signs of use & wear even if it has been refinished or restored. This is a MAGNIFIQUE vintage Italian Modern style B & B Italia black fabric king size bed attributed to designer Antonio Citterio & beautifully composed of a slatted natural wood platform style base waiting for a mattress within the padded sides & front wearing removeable black fabric covers. It has a gorgeous black mesh fabric headboard between two curved aluminum side arms with aluminum top corner details & a black fabric covered back support pad on the back, and it stands upon four straight cylindrical aluminum legs with round feet. It also has a removeable side table with an aluminum arm, black painted MDF round top, and an in & out swivel option. It’s especially convenient as you can attach & use it on either side of the bed! NICE!!! Just throw your king-sized mattress on this beauty and it is sure to grant an upscale touch of luxury, versatility, and functionality to your bedroom. It is expertly crafted, bears a distinguished reputation, and exudes a timeless Italian Modern aesthetic you are sure to love for years to come. Antonio Citterio was born in 1950 in Meda, Italy. He is an Italian architect, furniture designer, and industrial designer who lives & works in Milan. He received a degree in architecture from Politecnico di Milano in 1972 and began working as a designer & an industrial design consultant. From 1987 through 1996, he worked in association with Terry Dwan designing buildings in Japan and Europe and in 2000 with partner Patricia Viel he founded ACPV or Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel which is a cross-disciplinary practice for architecture & interior design. The firm works internationally developing projects on scales in collaboration with a network of specialist consultants. He designed the A2A Tower in Milan and currently works in the industrial design sector with several well acclaimed companies around the world. He was an Architectural Design professor at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio from 2006 to 2016. In 1987 & 1994 he was awarded the “Compasso d’Oro” prize & in 2008 the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce of London awarded him the title of “Honorary Royal Designer for Industry.” B & B Italia is an Italian Modern furniture company founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli.
