Venetian or Italian Giltwood Robustly Carved Headboard in Rococo Style

About the Item

King size or could be used as Queen, the width is at lower level . Some rather vibrant reds, oranges and golds bleeding through the heavily silvered and mecca gold gilt finishes . Probably made with an intended distress finish to imitate great age and use. Time has enhanced the distressing . The silver leaf with tarnished areas. Red and orange bole showing and rubbed through out . C and S scrolls abound in the form of rocaille shells. Dramatic finish. The upholstery backing later, probably originally open between carved scrolls . Wood shrinkage causing some joint separation (thin faint straight lines in photos ) . Very minor flaking or dents or dings, primarily to the outer edges . Dirt, grime , dust in some crevices .but the finish is in ready to go condition. Back is removable for recovering or do not use it and expose the wall behind the carving (see last photos ). The back side when upholstery is removed shows evidence of re-gluing . This is wall mounted so you can hang low or high to the mattress for desired effect . Please note , the back velvet is now Empire green. This was leased to a studio for filming with the provision they could alter the color as needed . It was returned from the gray green it was initially listed to the current Empire green . Two yards of a solid (like a velvet ) would recover. . Lighting can make a difference with paint ,colors and the gilding .. Please consider your room lighting . Approximate measures : The carved rococo finished headboard is 77 inches wide, 4.75 inches deep The bottom velvet board is 71 inches wide , 43 inches floor to top of center crest
