Antique 19th Century French Louis XV Style Walnut Cherry Chevet Nightstand
About the Item
An elegantly crafted antique mid to late 1800s French Louis XV style walnut and cherry small side table or nightstand (table de chevet). The doors open to reveal storage inside and there is a "secret drawer" on the underside as well. Quatrafoil cutouts on the side panels add a decorative touch and act as handles. The beautifully sculpted cabriole legs give this small table such grace. Original finish and patina give this piece an old world elegance. Note the burn marks on the tray top, likely from knocked over candles or pipes. Original hinges and old brass thumb turn latch on the doors. Note the splits in the wood from age and wood shrinkage (side and back panels) as well as the old wood patch on the front, top right (burn repair). A strong and sturdy piece, ready for many years of enjoyment as a side table or a nightstand.
While this piece is relatively small it is old and the legs are thin making it not a good candidate for UPS or Fed-Ex Ground shipping. I would ship with a door-to-door white glove delivery service.
Condition commensurate with age and use, in as found condition. The original French polish finish gives the walnut a rich glow. Burn marks on the top from pipes or candles.
