Christian Dior Leather Belt with Gold-Tone Sultan in Turban and Rams Head Buckle
About the Item
Fabulously fantastic vintage 1960s-1970s white leather belt with turbaned sultan and ram's head dangle ornament buckle. This belt is in wonderful vintage condition.
This is such an incredible Christian Dior belt! The belt itself is beautiful white 2 1/2 inch wide leather which is self-lined in white leather with the gold Christian Dior signature and 1412 stamped on the inside. The belt is adjustable with the largest adjustment being 30 inches. Then, there is the buckle. Oh! The buckle. It is grand! Made up of a gold-tone rectangle with rope edging and a textured back with a moustached Sultan in a turban with an earring mounted in the center. Then there is a gold-tone ram's head with the body of a serpent (or fish) mounted on a heavy solid chain circle which is then attached to the bottom of the rectangle as a dangling ornament. The rectangle is 2 inches by 3 inches and the ram circle is 2 inches in diameter. The overall height of the buckle with the dangle is 5.5 inches. I have seen two other buckles similar and they both had rhinestones. I do see mounting places where rhinestones could be on this buckle but no glue residue; so, in my opinion, I do not believe this particular rendition of the buckle ever had rhinestones. It looks natural not to have them. And, again, in my opinion, much better without! I also believe it to be from the 1960-1970s. This Christian Dior belt is in wonderful vintage condition. The leather shows some wear as would be expected but the buckle is in perfect shape. This outstanding vintage find should be yours!
