1928 The Torrents of Spring

About the Item

A finely bound copy of this lesser known satirical novel by great American author Ernest Hemingway, the second edition. The second edition of this work, which was first published in 1926. Smartly rebound in a half morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. A lesser known work of Ernest Hemingway, this novella was written as a parody of 'Dark Laughter' by Sherwood Anderson. Hemingway takes a satirical look at pretentious writers in this novel and in its publication. He wrote it in only ten days, and received a mixed reaction when first published, partly as it was published in the same year as 'The Sun Also Rises'. 'The Torrents of Spring' follows two men who work at a pump factory in the interwar era. Both men are searching for the perfect women, the novel following a series of their failed loves as they each try to find their ideal woman. In a half morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned, as is usual, and clean, with a few spots to the first few pages. Overall: Near Fine

A popular work, this went through three printings in 1926, and an additional four printings in 1927, two each in January and February, and one printing in March.
