Fernand Léger by Peter De Francia. Published by Yale University Press, 1983. 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket. Joseph Fernand Henri Léger; (February 4, 1881 – August 17, 1955) was a French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker. In his early works he created a personal form of cubism (known as "tubism") which he gradually modified into a more figurative, populist style. His boldly simplified treatment of modern subject matter has caused him to be regarded as a forerunner of pop art. 280 pp., 60 color plates and many b&w illustrations. The book explores Léger's writings and works in a variety of media including painting, film, theatre, decor, ceramic sculpture, and mosaics.
