About the Item

A beautifully photographed 2 volume box set of books which presents this prestigious collection of furniture in a way that cannot be seen by visitors to the palace. Versailles was the splendid palatial residences of the kings of France from the late 17th century until the French Revolution. It was then abandoned and the furniture dispersed, it was not until after the second world war that a huge effort was made to bringing back to Versailles the original furniture as far as possible and place it in its original setting. The first volume is dedicated to the royal furniture commissioned by the kings and catalogued according to their intended us. The second volume is of the furniture commissioned by other royal princes and patrons, in all 180 pieces have been photographed - with over 550 photographs included within the 2 volumes.
