La Russie À L'Avant-Garde 1900-1935 by Fonds Mercator, Exhibition Catalog

About the Item

La Russie À L'Avant-Garde 1900-1935 by Fonds Mercator. Published by Fonds Mercator, 2008. 1st Ed softcover Exhibition Catalog with French text. At the start of modernity and abstraction, an extraordinary movement shakes the Russian artistic world: in 1907, the first avant-garde stands up against naturalism and Symbolist. Russian artists, at this time, were among the most daring protagonists of the upheavals that will define the art of the 20th c. This avant-garde movement went through many stages - Cezannism, Russian Fauvism, neoprimitivism, cubofuturism, first abstraction, suprematism, constructivism, Matiushin's school, Filonov's school - before gradually merging into a Soviet ideology. This is addresss the movement in its multidisciplinary scope, in order to establish a dialogue between paintings, sculptures, reliefs, handicrafts, theater sets and costumes, short films, photographs and photocollages, architectural projects, posters ... It brings together or will oppose legendary artists, such as Gontcharova, Larionov, Filonov, Malévitch, Tatlin, Exter , Popova, Rozanova, Stépanova or even Rodtchenko, Pevzner, Gabo ... For the first time, the movement is placed in a broad historical context. The exhibition traces its brilliant history, from its origins to the mid-1930s, and as it testifies to this parallel or concomitant evolution towards Soviet realism, the dogma of which was proclaimed in 1934. In the 1920s, post-supremacy of Malévitch, the constructive realism of Pougny, Altman or Lébédev and the visionary of Filonov are in fact contemporary with the architectural works of Deïnéka and Samokhvalov or the iconic hieraticisms of Pakhomov and Pakouline, which lead to the great ideological machineries of Soviet realism. NPT Books, a division of Trent Antiques, has a large collection of used and out of print books on art, architecture, decoration and antiques with a focus on 1st editions, signed and limited editions.
