Additional information: Roger Moukarzel is an internationally published documentary and fashion photographer. Born in Beirut in 1962, Moukarzel’s interest in war photography began when he was a teenager. For fifteen years, he worked for news agencies Sygma and Reuters, photographing the essence of combat and the resilience of humanity under the harshest circumstances.
Moukarzel’s photo-documentaries have been featured in many international publications. France’s legendary Paris Match printed one of his photographs – a scene of destruction and mayhem on a Beirut street – on the cover of its 40th anniversary issue.
Years spent documenting turmoil and disaster took a mental and physical toll on Moukarzel. He eventually shifted to fashion photography, a more glamorous (and less dangerous) field. In his own words, he explains: "A shift from scenes of death… to scenes of life A shift from the ugly face of war...

Antique and very rare Gothic photo book filled with French photos from circa 1860-1880.
Over the decades we have bought and sold many Gothic Revival antiques from almost all the centuries since Gothic pieces have been around. This however is the first time that we ever found a pure Gothic photo album. This hand-crafted album dates from circa 1870-1890 and some of the antique photos are even older. The most eyecatching features (when this album is closed) are ofcourse the large, bronzed metal, Gothic hinges and they even still open and close perfectly on the side where this album closes and opens. Another great feature is the embossed leather Gothic decoration on the spine of this rare antique. It includes two Gothic trefoil symbols for the trinity, making this rare antique also a meaningful one. The guilded outsides of the pages makes it resemble the outsides of many large antique bibles and the multitude of photos inside (many Parisian) are images that tell part of the story of what life was like (for the well to do) in the mid 1800s in France. They are all seated, holding small cups. Behind them to the right is the exterior of a building, with an ornate entrance. To the left, there is a tree in a garden, with a landscape unfolding behind it.
"Gulistan" ("The Flower Garden") is perhaps the most famous and influential piece of Persian literature, consisting of a collection of nearly six hundred poems and stories. The themes are broad but generally are structured around finding wisdom and beauty among flowers and plants.

This catalog accompanied the first comprehensive exhibition of Turkish art devoted to the most celebrated period of Ottoman history, the reign of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent. A brilliant jurist, Süleyman was also a discerning collector, a significant patron, and an accomplished poet. He, as well as his wife, daughter, sons, and court officials, commissioned many architectural monuments and literary and historical texts. The sophisticated patronage of Süleyman and his court nurtured the high standards and creativity that came to typify Ottoman art of the 16th century. The Age of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, with more than 200 judiciously chosen works of art, includes manuscripts (with examples of Süleyman’s own poetry) as well as jeweled vessels, silks, painted ceramics, and other sumptuous objects created in the imperial studios under the guidelines established by the sultan.
Suleyman, who doubled the size of the Ottoman Empire during his reign, was a contemporary of Elizabeth I and Martin Luther. A strong patron of the arts, he maintained imperial studios where decorative themes invented for manuscript illumination were extended to pottery, tiles, woven silks, carpets and jewelry. This was an age when calligraphy was practiced by kings as well as copyists, and when ceramics as fine as the best Ming pottery poured forth from Turkish kilns. A touring exhibition focuses on works on loan from the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul; among the rewards of this handsomely illustrated catalogue are drawings of fantastic flying creatures, realistic scenes of natural beauty, daily articles such as embroidered handkerchiefs...
