Strangers in the Vly by Edmund Gilligan. NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1941. First edition hardcover with dust jacket. 261 pp. A horror novel set in New York's Catskill mountains where Captain John, a great man in New England and Paris, and his traveling companions (dwarfs of malignant appearance and reputation, who were hiding away after their assassination of an Emperor) reveal an evil fascination with the innocent people of Vly and particularly the innkeeper's daughter, whose love story runs throughout the book.
