Suzanne Rheinstein: a Welcoming Elegance

About the Item

Author Suzanne Rheinstein, with Michael Boodro, Photographs by Pieter Estersohn Over the past decade, celebrated style maker Suzanne Rheinstein has achieved an unprecedented level of refinement and clarity. Her love of objects from the past remains a touchstone, but in her newest rooms, stylish modernity and an elegant simplicity hold sway. Presented are beautifully photographed homes of clients Suzanne Rheinstein has worked with before that reflect a vision of richness tempered by restraint. Her longtime fans will find new inspiration in these pages. Throughout, she shares her ideas of how to live in a relaxed way surrounded by artworks and personal collections. A traditional Georgian library is done in a totally untraditional lacquered green, while a San Francisco town house revamp includes a “California” room filled with Moroccan rugs and rattan chairs, and a serene retreat has a guesthouse evocative of the bohemian 1970s. About The Author Leading interior designer Suzanne Rheinstein’s style is often described as “elegant civility.” She is included on Elle Decor’s A-list, and her projects have been published in Architectural Digest and Veranda, as well as in her best-selling book At Home. She was the owner of Los Angeles shop Hollyhock and has designed fabric and rug collections for Lee Jofa. Michael Boodro is a lifestyle magazine editor and writer. The former editor in chief of Elle Decor, he is now an adviser to the Design Leadership Network and host of the Chairish Podcast. Photographer Pieter Estersohn’s work appears in The World of Interiors. He is the author of Life Along the Hudson and has provided photographs for several lifestyle books.

Rattan: A World of Elegance and Charm
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Rattan furnishings evoke the glamour and laid back elegance of exotic beach houses as well as the informal beauty of plant filled garden rooms and sun dappled verandas. Long fascinated with rattan's versatility, designer Lulu Lytle examines the enduring appeal of this sustainable tropical palm in RATTAN: A WORLD OF ELEGANCE AND CHARM. The first book in decades to examine the history and craftsmanship of rattan furniture, this insightful tome showcases rattan's appeal through archival images of beautiful interiors including Madeleine Castaing's winter garden in Paris, Michael Taylor's own Californian beach house, the Titanic's Café Parisian and the Billy Baldwin designed Mr. Kennedy's beauty salon in New York City. Rattan's many personalities are explored through its inclusion in settings as diverse as Impressionist paintings, flamboyant nightclubs and pared down contemporary drawing rooms. A reflection of its inherent beauty and longevity, antique rattan furniture from the nineteenth century is highly collectible, as are rattan pieces created by giants of modern design such as Josef Hoffmann for Thonet, Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn, Jean-Michel Frank for Ecart, Renzo Mongiardino for Bonacina, Arne Jacobsen for Sika, Paul Frankl and Donald Deskey. Rattan pieces have become iconic and highly prized, including Hiroomi Tahara's Wrap Sofa, Franca Helg's Primavera Chair, and the many iterations of the beloved Peacock Chair. RATTAN also highlights some of the many tastemakers who have embraced rattan--from Marella Agnelli, Babe Paley, and Cecil Beaton to leading interior designers including Jeffrey Bilhuber, Veere Grenney, Axel Vervoordt, and Jacques Grange. About The Author Lulu Lytle, long smitten with the romance and versatility of rattan, rescued the last remaining workshop in Britain in 2010 in order to establish Soane Britain...

At the Table of La Fortezza, The Enchantment of Tuscan Cooking
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
At the Table of La Fortezza: The Enchantment of Tuscan Cooking from the Lunigiana Region. Author Annette Joseph, Photographs by David Loftus. Annette Joseph shares recipes from the charming Lunigiana region of Tuscany that were developed at her medieval fortress, La Fortezza. This is the first book on the cuisine of this important slow-food area. Lunigiana is a rugged, mountainous region of Tuscany, flanked by the Liguria coastline and Emilia-Romagna, whose cuisine has been shaped by its distinctive landscape and location. Author and stylist Annette Joseph purchased and renovated a stunning medieval fortress, aptly named La Fortezza (“The Fortress”), in this little-known area. Enamored by Lunigiana’s rich food heritage and traditions, Joseph sought out authentic and traditional dishes from the best chefs, home cooks, and slow-food purveyors in the region. This book showcases these rustic recipes, some of which have been enjoyed for centuries. Lunigiana’s cuisine brings together the flavors of both the coast and the mountains and draws inspiration from the neighboring regions. It is home to unique ingredients, such as chestnut flour, and its specialties are often still prepared the ancient way. Lunigiana is also recognized by UNESCO as a sustainable region, and Joseph’s recipes highlight slow-food practices, such as sourcing seasonal ingredients from local producers. Breathtaking photographs by David Loftus highlight the beauty of Lunigiana’s cuisine and countryside, as well as La Fortezza’s dreamy vineyard, orchards, and kitchen garden. This book is an incredible culinary and visual journey into an undiscovered region in Italy and a must-have for anyone who loves Italian food...
