Neoclassical French Gilt & Silvered Bronze Complete Table Top Boxed Chess Set, Consisting of 33 pieces, 16 gilt bronze playing pieces, 16 silvered playing pieces, and the bronze-mounted chess storage box pedestal. This exquisite neoclassical French chess set is a rare and complete masterwork, featuring 16 silvered bronze and 16 gilt bronze chess pieces, each meticulously cast and engraved with remarkable craftsmanship. The kings and queens are distinguished by their elegant orb finials, while the knights take the form of finely sculpted horses' heads. The rooks are designed as towers, and the pawns feature ball medallion tapering finials. The largest piece, the king, stands 2.5 inches high, with all pieces having a 1-inch diameter base, ensuring a solid and weighty presence. The set is uniquely self-contained, housed with a stunning 12.5-inch square bronze chessboard with engraved alternating light and dark squares measuring 1.75 inches each. The board is elevated on a richly stained hardwood base, measuring 4.5 inches high x 13.5 inches wide x 13.5 inches deep, and is supported by four ornate bronze paw feet. For added functionality, the base incorporates two pull-out, velvet-lined fitted drawers, designed to securely store the playing pieces when not in use.
