Pearl Royale 18K White Gold, Diamond, Sapphire and South Sea Pearl Chess Set

About the Item

The Pearl Royale chess set stands as one of the world’s finest jewelry artworks ever created. This masterpiece is hailed as the most valuable and opulent chess set in the world and limited to only three editions (plus one artist proof). The artwork is crafted from 18K white gold, adorned with 513 carats of the finest GIA certified diamonds, AAA Ceylon blue sapphires and lustrous South Sea pearls. The underside of each piece is intricately designed, channel set with fine diamonds and masterfully polished gold edges, allowing the pieces to glide smoothly across the crystal glass board that is fitted with gold and diamond adornments. The design is an exquisite Staunton style, which has championship origins; Staunton chess sets have become the world standard since 1849 and the only chess sets allowed in the World Chess Championships. Inspired by this legacy, the artist has paid homage to this royal standard, meticulously dressing and bringing each of his pieces to life with lavish diamonds, sapphires and pearl regalia, fit for Kings and Queens. Each edition comes hallmarked, numbered, and authenticated by the artist. The Pearl Royale Chess Set has been widely recognized in a variety of leading media outlets and publications including, Newsweek, ABC and the Rob Report. World Chess Grand Master Fabiano Caruana became the first person in history to play on the Pearl Royale and joining him was another Grand Master Robert Hess along with International Master Danny Rensch. These legendary chess champions played on the Pearl Royale board to predict and discuss World Champion, Magnus Carlsen’s first moves during Round 6 of the official 2021 FIDE World Championship broadcast. Artist inspiration & context: “As a child, I often played chess on a beautiful Staunton set my parents gave to me. Thinking back to those fun times inspired me to design and create the Pearl Royale. The game of chess brings millions of people together from all over the world, to do battle and celebrate victory or defeat with respect for each other. I wanted to honor this powerful game with an artwork that symbolizes the high value that chess brings to the world. Living in the Australian pearling town of Broome and watching my son professionally dive for South Sea pearls, gave me the idea to embody the heads of each piece with these lustrous gems, bringing life to the characters. It became my dream to create the world’s finest chess set and to have the World’s Grand Masters compete upon it.” - Colin Burn
